My name is Leah Wilson, once a local artist in Edmonton, it is a thrill to start exhibiting in such a fine city again.

hey folx,

me and my cat have enjoyed our stay here in the flatlands but we are heading home to the kootenays next week. i'm driving a truck with a camper-trailer in tow so the parameters of the journey are:

1. room for a couple of riders and your stuff.
2. going slooow over the passes ... we'll take two days to get there for sure ... sleep in the trailer somewhere on the way
3. cat loose in truck, on laps. she's a good traveller.

if you need a ride to nelson or somewhere along the way, drop me a tribe message and tell me a little about you. co-drivers appreciated. contribute to gas costs please.

I used to live in edmonton, for about three months, but I became good friends with jordanna and jen, and I don't know what their last names are! Jordanna does hair wraps at the street fest, and used to hang out at the blues bar sometimes. I really want to reconnect with them...

Looking for a ride from Edmonton to Saskatoon

Hello all my friends! I'm 1 of 3 in a group called the Outspoken Wordsmiths. we are touring across the country of Canada and very soon will be in Edmonton. We are in a need though, we have to find some way to get to Saskatoon a few days around the 5th of March. One of us can drive manual and we are very willing and able to help pay for gas.we're looking for a ride for 1, 2 or 3 people plus some of our big bags. We usually need to find at least two ridesto get all three of us to a new city with all of our bags and gear. If you are going that way at the same time, in some chance way, then Please get into contact with us it would be very helpful. If you know of anyone who may be going in that direction could you please let us know how to get into contact with them... Really it's whatever we can find that will get us there... if you have any ideas or helpful hints please don't hold back from doing so.

When intact and ancient wilderness is destroyed, it is lost forever.
Interfor (International Forest Products) is currently road-building and
cutting old-growth forest in an intact valley of Clayoquot Sound, on
Vancouver Island, BC. Intact temperate rainforest is globally rare and ecologically precious. Intact valleys are the reason Clayoquot Sound was designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

CLAYOQUOT PEACE THREATENED:
INTERFOR BUILDING ROAD INTO INTACT VALLEY

Tofino, BC: Friends of Clayoquot Sound today discovered that International
Forest Products (Interfor) is building a logging road into a rare intact
valley north of Tofino. This marks the first time in 14 years that an intact
wilderness valley in Clayoquot Sound has been impacted by road-building and
falling of ancient temperate rainforest.

“Interfor’s road-building in intact rainforest valleys is an ecological
crime, and we are again hearing that local people will not stand idly by and
allow this to happen,” said Diego A. Garcia, forest campaigner for Friends
of Clayoquot Sound. “Undisturbed valleys are exceedingly rare on Vancouver
Island, where 75% of the original productive forest has been logged. We are
calling on Interfor to immediately cease all forestry activity in all of
Clayoquot’s intact valleys.”

The intact valley being logged and roaded is called Hesquiat Lake Creek, and
is part of the largest intact forest remaining on Vancouver Island. Hesquiat
Lake Creek is one of a handful of undisturbed, or intact, valleys that was
recommended for protection by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) in 1996,
and that received recognition from First Nations and environmentalists as
being “Eehmiis” - meaning very, very precious.

“Interfor’s logging of intact valleys in Clayoquot Sound is a losing
proposition. Interfor is losing money in Clayoquot, paying miniscule
stumpage taxes ($0.25 per cubic metre), and has just permanently laid off
all but 2 staff in its local office,” said Forest Watch Coordinator Maryjka
Mychajlowycz. “At the same time, Interfor is causing the loss of globally
rare and ecologically precious intact valleys. Where’s the sense in that?”

In 2000, Clayoquot Sound was designated a Biosphere Reserve by the United
Nations’ Environmental, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in
recognition of the global ecological and cultural importance of the region.
“The ecological importance of Clayoquot Sound is critically linked to the
pristine valleys,” said Garcia. “It makes no sense to designate a United
Nations’ Biosphere Reserve and then log away the keystone features that make
Clayoquot Sound so globally important.”

Interfor also intends to log other intact valleys in Clayoquot Sound, with
plans approved for logging in Satchie Creek, two watersheds near Sulphur
Pass, as well as the current activities in Hesquiat Lake Creek.

Bicycling in Edmonton

I'm not a native to Edmonton, in fact, I've never been there. I've joined this tribe because I plan to travel through Edmonton later this Spring and I'm hoping to harvest some insights, advice and caveats from some current residents.

To keep it simple: I'm curious as to the "bike-ability" of Edmonton. Are there areas that are more bike-friendly than others? Is the city hell for bicyclists? I have found that biking is a great way to get a feel for a place and I'd like to do so during my train-trip through Canada.

I'm a graphic artist, programmer, animator and intermittent vagabond from Portland, Oregon. Any advice would be helpful regarding bikes, coffee, hostels, coops, wireless Internet locations and friendly science/art-minded individuals or communities.
